As we're all settling in to a new year and setting our path to the future, I found two pieces of information circulating this morning of particular interest.
First of all, per NPR and the Associated Press, ad costs for the Super Bowl are down. This year's coverage is on CBS rather than NBC. Does that make any difference? More importantly, during an NPR interview a marketing professor (sorry, can't remember his name at the moment!), stated what many of us know. The pie gets smaller during a recession, which means it's the perfect time to increase your advertising spend if you're in a position to do so.
And just hitting my inbox is an article from the Wall Street Journal demonstrating clearly the continuing value of direct mail. Many of us are working to find a balance between social media and more traditional methods of reaching clients and prospects. But as this article demonstrates, eliminating direct mail and print may be a huge mistake. As the song says "everything old is new again"!
